Psychological Inertia:

Psychological Inertia is the tendency of people to think about things in the same way unless acted upon by some external force. Psychological inertia are the rules and regulations we have grown to use to accomplish a goal. In order to be innovative, we often have to operate under different rules to allow for new thoughts and directions. In Steps 2 and 4 of our Systematic Innovation Process we use numerous “pattern breaking lenses” to break paradigms and see things in a new light.
